Cheryl Cole has left intensive care and been transferred to a private clinic. The British singer was rushed to University College London Hospital on Sunday and spent several days in intensive care after contracting malaria during her recent holiday to Tanzania.
She has now been discharged from the facility and taken to a private treatment centre, where she will complete her recovery from the potentially fatal illness. "Cheryl Cole today came out of intensive care and has left UCLH," a statement from Cheryl's representative read.
"She has now been transferred to a private clinic where she will remain for her recovery." Earlier today, it was reported Cheryl was suffering from fluid on her lungs, and would not be back to full health for up to six months. Cheryl is thought to have contracted malaria, which is spread by mosquitoes, during a trip to Africa with her dancer friend Derek Hough last month.
She took a course of anti-malaria drugs before and during her holiday, but was exposed to a medication-resistant strain of the disease. The 27-year-old's management team have told bosses of reality programme The X Factor, which she judges, she will be absent indefinitely. At the moment, it is unknown when she will be well enough to return to work.
