It was reported earlier this month that while Cheryl is expected to still have a role on the programme, it will be as Simon Cowell's helper, the position taken by Sinitta in the UK version of the show, rather than as a judge on the panel when the show hits America. A source said recently: 'Simon is consoling her with the offer of helping him win the first series, which would give her profile a massive boost.’And high-profile American celebrity blogger Perez Hilton said yesterday he understands why Cheryl hasn't been offered a main role on the programme when it starts later this year, adding that her strong accent might cause issues with US viewers.

He said: 'I think it would be disastrous if Simon Cowell gave Cheryl Cole a place on the US judging panel. No-one over here knows who Cheryl is and I doubt anyone would understand her accent. 'Why would Simon go for a nobody if he can get someone like Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilera to join the show? The judges should be Mariah, Christina, Simon and me - four massive divas.'However, Simon is also thought to be lining up Mariah's ex-husband, American record executive Tommy Mottola, for a role on the judging panel - suggesting Mariah might not be as keen to take part in the programme. Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger is another name being bandied around, following her success on the UK show last year, while Jessica Simpson's involvement is also rumoured.
