The bolder the preferable: Cheryl Cole strides out in additional spendid colours as she leaves CannesThere were mixed reviews over the bold outfit she wore for her first day of filming X Factor USA. But despite her critics, Cheryl Cole is sticking with the loud and bright colours, which may start to become her trademark. The singer was snapped leaving Cannes yesterday where she had been for a few days representing L'Oreal.

She wore cobalt blue trousers as she arrived at Nice airport a week after she showed off a pair of royal purple flared trousers at the X Factor in Los Angeles. She teamed the blue capris with a fluorescent pink top and Louboutin heels, the toes and bottoms of which matched her trousers. Cheryl, 27, was flying to New York where she will either spend a few days, or catch a connection to Los Angeles.

The outfit was as bright as the one she wore to kick-start her US career, but the purple trousers and frilled orange top were met with mixed reviews. Cheryl has been told she needs to become more ‘old-style sophisticated and glamorous’ by her new bosses in Hollywood. A source within the production team told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Obviously Cheryl is a gorgeous woman, but she turned up to the first day’s filming of The X Factor looking a bit weird in purple flares.

Everyone was talking about how she looked – but for all the wrong reasons. The level of glamour expected by American audiences is much higher. Here, women in television are groomed to within an inch of their lives.’ Simon Cowell has ordered the team to approach some of the best-known stylists in LA to help Cole pull together a ‘jaw-dropping’ wardrobe before the new show starts in September. A source told the Daily Star: 'Cheryl is planning to meet with several stylists in LA in a bid to find her perfect match.

'She is very independent and doesn’t like being told what to wear, but these are Simon’s orders so she doesn’t have much choice.'Speaking to Grazia magazine before she flew off to Los Angeles, Cheryl said she had embraced bold and bright colours this season. She said: 'I absolutely love colours at the minute. 'It makes everything feel bright and alive so I am going to go colour crazy while I can.'

Cheryl was in Cannes this weekend to attend the Habemus Papam film premiere and represent cosmetics firm L'Oreal, having recently fronted their Elnett hairspray ad campaign. As she stepped into the cab to take her home, she couldn't resist poking her tongue out as she was whisked away. An onlooker said: 'Cheryl looked in sparkling form after the party, in more ways than one. 'She had clearly had a good time having managed to strike the perfect balance between stylish and sexy.'

She had stepped out in a figure-hugging sparkly dress for the Italian movie's L'Oreal after-party with a slicked-back ponytail and dark plum-coloured lipstick. The look was rather more modest than the one she had sported earlier for the film showcase itself - a plunging white Stephane Rolland gown that left little to the imagination. But Cheryl managed to look both sexy and elegant in the white creation. Cheryl teamed the dress with an unusual belt, which featured what appeared to be two gold pears on the front, and gold clutch bag. She appeared poised and confident as she posed for photographers on the red carpet at the premiere.

She then decided to make an appearance at the party hosted by L'Oreal, the cosmetics company of which she is the face. The choice was a sharp contrast to Cheryl's usual appearance of voluminous hair and fresh-faced make-up which she wore to the X Factor USA. However, the Parachutes singer told MailOnline she was nervous about how US viewers would react to her strong Geordie accent. She said: 'I'm hoping people are going to embrace it. I'm not worried (about my accent). It's going to be interesting. I hear a lot of accents here too. 'I'm sure there will be words or phases where people are like, excuse me?' Asked if she would adjust or change her voice, she replied emphatically: 'Never! I would be crucified where I'm from if I tried to change my accent.'
